Michael Fernandes: a dialogue with painting

The Blue Building is thrilled to host a solo exhibition of new work by beloved artist, teacher and mentor, Michael Fernandes. The exhibition is titled, I Turn Babies, Michael Fernandes: a dialogue with painting.

Fernandes is renowned for his foundational work in performance and installation. His conceptually driven pieces speak in the first person, strike at the heart and linger in the mind. They disarm with humour, familiarity and simplicity, only to unfold into profound reflections on life, the state of art and our world.

I Turn Babies is centred around “The Wonder’neath Series (add to me)” a collection of painitngs Fernandes made onsite at our neighbour’s Wonder’neath in silent collaboration with their bi-weekly Open Studio program.

“The Wonder’neath Series(add to me)” is shown alongside a personal ‘dialogue with painting’—a series of installations/interventions that activate the space.
